This ship simulation is coupled with experts having sound practical knowledge from many years of experience at sea.
Posford Haskoning have carried out a large number of ship handling and navigational studies, generally as part of overall port development planning. These studies have included both large bulk carriers in excess of 150,000 dwt, and small general cargo vessels in relatively constricted channels.
The firm has a computer model SHIP which is used to plot the tracks of vessels as they navigate channels and approach the berth. This model has a library of some 70 vessel types, and other ship's characteristics can be added as required.
The model takes account of shallow water; wind; variable current; ship interaction; tugs; anchor forces; bow and stern thrusters; bank effects.
